Denver, Colorado
The Kirkland Museum is a new 40,000-sf museum with an exterior facade of a mix of yellow terracotta baguettes, glass, metal and Swisspearl panels. Shaw also relocated Colorado artist Vance Kirkland’s 1910 original studio from 13th and Pearl Street to the new museum location. The 150-ton brick structure was supported by steel beams on remotely controlled wheels and seamlessly incorporated into the new building. The interior finishes are museum-quality with state-of-the-art mechanical and lighting systems. The mechanical system includes 26,475-ft-deep geothermal wells located under a detention pond that is concealed under the museum's parking. Through diligent preconstruction and operations efforts, Shaw delivered the project half a million dollars under budget and on schedule.
