The Kirkland Museum project included a new, 40,000-sf museum, as well as relocating Vance Kirkland’s original 1910 studio six blocks to the new museum location. The original 150-ton brick studio was transported on steel beams supported by remotely controlled wheels and was seamlessly incorporated into the new building. The exterior facade of the new building included a mix of yellow terracotta baguettes, glass, metal, and Swisspearl panels. The interior finishes are museum quality with state-of-the-art finishes and lighting systems. Construction also included connecting the mechanical systems to a 26,475-ft-deep geothermal well located under a detention pond concealed under the museum's parking lot. Through diligent preconstruction and operations efforts, Shaw delivered the project half a million dollars under budget and on schedule.
